My EA Falcon keeps throwing my power steering belt. I've now been through 9 belts. Once i think the belt was the wrong size, but anywayz. This is what ive done:
Replaced Idler Pulley Replaced Power steering resevoir and pump (same thing) Replaced crank pulley Replaced Power steering sensor. Drained entire power steering fluid. Changed the brackets that hold on the pump just in case they were bent which means the belt wasn't exactly straight. There is nothing else i can replace. It gets under load and throws the belt off every time. From what i can see the alignment is straight. Ive had enough. its costing to much money. I didnt think there is anything else to replace. Help!!! P.S: and i wanna fix it myself, no mechanic sht |

it sounds like there is nothing left to replace.. the only things i can think of is there is some kind of restriction or blockage in your power steer pump lines. but i would assume that the belt would just screech and slip.. or the belt is just not tight enough! |

Hi There
What happenened to the other belts ??? Did they break or just vanish while you were driving ??? Can you watch as it happens ??? get someone to rev the engine while you watch - be careful though !!! I'd first check...... With belt removed, tighten locknut ( 24mm ) on idler pulley while holding middle adjusting nut ( 13mm ) steady - does the idler pulley still turn smoothly with no grinding or sticking ??? Does PS pump pulley turn smoothly with belt removed ??? If they do and you've replaced all what you said then ....... 1. Its the wrong belt - unlikely I know. 2. The belt is not adjusted properly. 3. The idler pulley locknut is working loose and allowing too much slack. 4. There still might be a slight misalignment between the pump, idler pulley and crank possibly caused by too much end float in crankshaft - how olds the engine ??? Good luck |

The other belts just come off and where sitting around the pulleys. Some broke though. I've watched the belt as its started and it just turned over straight away. Idler pulley is smooth as its been replaced and is smooth, same as the power steering pump.
What do you mean by too much end float in the crankshaft, and how can i check that? Thanks for the input. |

Couple of Questions
1. Are you using the thin, V shaped belts or the wider, flatter belts ??? 2. If its the thinner V shaped belt ......... is the top of the belt when its tensioned flush or just below the lips on the Idler, PS pump and Crank pulleys ??? |

pulleys aren't lined up or one of your ancillary pulley is of centre.
run engine & look if any of pulley wobbles.
