Im looking at a BA XR6 Manual at the moment, but im wondering if theres any main things I should look for? Do they still have the head gasket issues, or are there any other common problems with the BA I should look for in particular?
Thanks, Will

Well the headgasket is not much of a problem now...or maybe at all.
I have heard BAs going back because of their Diffs and transmission so you might want to check them out. besides that I haven't heard much else. phong =P~

Shuddering/noisy brakes are a common problem
Faulty power steering system can cause shuddering/pulsing Faulty handbrakes are common Dodgy diffs/transmission, moreso with autos from what ive heard The auto trans cooler can break, mixing coolant and auto fluid, causing real probelms with the auto trans (whoops just read your is a manual, not an issue then) Some issues with interior panel alignment. My handbreak cover doesnt fit flush with the centre console Bonnet release cable can break I also had a bad hub, but that might have just been my car Thats a hell of a lot of problems! My advice would be to get nothing earlier than an 04, a lot of problems appeared to have been ironed out by then. That way you also get some factory warranty to fix any problems. If possible get a mkII, again less likely to have common problems

Mostly just poorly adjusted handbrakes making a swish-swish noise, bonnet releases and incredibly badly fitting handbrake trim.

Don't know if you're planning an towing or not, but do BA's still have the clutch problems that earlier models had with towing?

dont do it, brakes; warping discs, noisey diff rebuild needed after 150000k, power steer fluid leaks, battery problems, radio receptiion is bad, head lights bulbs keep blowing, new alterator required because of power fluid leaks, bad fuel comsumption, very bad resale value,

What he is trying to say is buy an EA, not a BA(D).

Nothing is perfect, more so a production car.
How many times has the Commodore being RECALLED? but it is almost as good as a mass production Falcon. Modern cars have few breakdowns (other than some Kia's and Daewoo) |
