Why? XR is the same as Ghia isn't it?

How do you know if its an XR cluster? As i have one and it must be an XR one as it worked perfectly in my mums GLI (minus the oil pressure gauge)

either look at the sticker on the bottom RHS.
They have the following:
GLi
Futura
XR
Ghia
High Series

to tell if its a XR vs. fairmont guage you could simply undo it and look for the resistor ( http://www.fordmods.com/Images/HighResistor.jpg )

No resistor = Fairmont
With resistor = XR or police or pre modded GLi etc etc

If you happen to install a fairmont guage into a GLi or XR car. it will work fine! well in the daytime it will! The difference is this resistor controls the LCD illumination and in return will have no dashboard lights!

Or read the following to get all the goss!
