Hey guys, Need to know which of the following yella terra flywheels is the right one for my 99 XHII XR8 5 spd. I want to go one of the lightweight ones.
YT9909 - Yella Terra steel flywheel. Ford Windsor 5.0L 10.5kg. Late model. Counterweighted. 157 teeth. YT9909L - Yella Terra steel flywheel lightweight. Ford Windsor 5.0L 8.5kg. Late model. Counterweighted. 157 teeth. 3 - 4.5kg lighter than std. YT9909N - Yella Terra steel flywheel. Ford Windsor 5.0L and Ohc 6cyl. 10.3kg. Late model Nuetral Balance. 157 teeth. YT9909NL - Yella Terra steel flywheel lightweight. Ford Windsor 5.0L and Ohc 6cyl. Late model Neutral balance. 157 teeth. All that info was found on rocketindustries.com.au and americanautos.com.au. I got terry at bpt to get me one in but im pretty sure its the wrong one. It has 164 teeth,11" diameter and weighs 12kg. And none of the 6 holes in my clutch cover line up. So im pretty sure this is one for the early model windsors If someone could let me know before the weekend that would be great cheers everyone. Jeff

Whichever flywheel you decide on it must be 157tooth and 50oz imbalance.....unless; you built an internally balanced or early 302 balance(28oz) engine.
The 164T flywheel takes an 11" clutch which is why your clutch does not line up. To use a 164T flywheel you'll need to change your bellhousing to suit. Pete. |

Cheers Pete. Terry got it all sorted for me and got me in a YT9909. He said because i want to get a set of race underdrives fitted he wouldnt go down to a lightweight 8.5kg flywheel aswell. He said to choose one or the other, underdrives or lightweight f/wheel, coz if i was to have both he said it will rev up too quick and start f**k up the clutch. He said the boys with the boss motors have had trouble with l/weight f/wheels and underdrives together, the clutch couldnt handle it. The YT9909 weighs 10.5kg which is pretty close to std i think?

A cammed up motor a light flywheel doesn't help idle either...Especially with large ports etc....
Seems strange that less load on engine is hard on clutch??? Unless rpm rises quick before clutch engagement...
