Gday.

My XB has been out of action for 2 months and I just got it to the startup stage today. I noticed that the ALT light is on when the key is out but when the key is turned to ON it goes out, the reverse of how it usually works..

Any ideas on what would cause this?

Iv been thinking it through and the only think that I know Ive changed is the 0.8ohm ballast resistor before the coil. From memory there is a connection to the warning lights from that.... Any ideas? I'll put a new resistor in tomorrow and see what it does.

Ok resistor didnt change anything so I took it back out. Turns out there are 2 blade connections on the back of the alternator (hard to see in the dark), change the plug over to the other connection and BAM, everything works as normal. Lessons to be learnt, its usually the simple stuff and if its dark use a torch!...also beer does not help problem solving abilities.

Iv got pretty much everything sorted now. Just waiting on the MSD lead kit which should be in tomorrow. Its the universal 8.5mm kit that you make the leads up yourself, I cant see it being too hard to measure cut and terminate 9 leads before it gets dark. So hopefully it'll be going tomorrow night.

All fired up!!!! The leads came in this morning, I cut and terminated them when I got home. It took a little to get the dizzy adjusted but shes running great now. Real easy to start too. Just took it for a drive, didnt get above 2500, but I didnt need to, it goes a lot harder. Hope to retention the heads tomorrow night.

When and where is this all ford day?
