Hi
Simple question Will an e Series coil spring diff fit under an XE with coil springs? Will any mods be needed? |

Yes if you use the (from memory) control arms from the donor e-series.
I take it you're after a 3.45 or similar. If thats the case they you'll need the upper and lower arms. Plus the tailshaft (I think they are the same length) as the diff side is different. Your problem will then only fall into the rear brake setup and handbrake differences. If you want to use an EF/EL setup, it will be some fun. If you get an EB-ED setup, everything should fit in nicely. Been a long time, but an old FM member put an EL XR diff into his XF Ghia. I helped put his diff into a replacement car, as the first one was stacked, and can only remember bits and pieces of what he did. |

Just looking at a XF (same as XE?) housing and an EF housing I have here, physically everything seems like its in the same place but as arm hinted the control arms are wider on the e-series so you'll need as well.

EA-EF talshaft`ll fit if youre running singlerail, T5 or borgy auto, most are flanged at the rear...if in doubt, take tailshaft from donor. handbrake cable also needed from later series. you wanna get the coupling on the flexible brake line changed to suit Xseries too...1 is metric, other is imperial. brake joint`ll do it for ~$30 or so.
Have heard a few stories relating to the control arms...last one we did was from an EB wreck, we used the arms and all...overall, it aint too much drama if you have a few basic workshop tools and a bit of nouse...CAN`T STRESS THE FLEXIBLE BRAKE LINE ENUFF...believe it or not, I have seen ppl just cross-thread them in place and say "nah, that`ll do..." insanity...
