Does anyone know how I can check the cam angle sensor position to make sure it's right? Or is close enough good enough and will the ECU work the timing out?
I took the bloody thing out (trying to resovle rough idle) and the gear on the end moved slightly. I put it back to where I thought it was but I'm not sure that might be right.

It only has to be very roughly in the right place as the ecu only uses it to work out when the engine is on the compression stroke.
From memory, the correct way to install it is to lock it in place by inserting something small into the hold in the body and rotating the gear until it clicks into place. Once locked, just push it in with the engine at TDC so that it lines up with the braket. hope that makes sense.

That would be TDC on cylinder 1 I assume?

Yep, TDC for cylinder 1 on the compression stroke.

Yeah that's about it, you stick a pin into it to lock the shaft in place to line it up.
You'll see the hole in the body of the sensor, throw a pin or whatever you can find into it and turn the shaft, you'll soon feel it lock into place. |
