Hey guys, so during the summer months, my XH XR6 (if sitting out in the sun) will have no ignition. If i hold the key flat for a few minutes, the engine will finally turnover and start. The time i need to hold it for changes from 1 min upto approx 20.
I find it strange that it only happens during the hot months, if i drive the ute for a period (ie the engine is warm) and then try and start it, it's fine. I was told once that the XF has a similar problem, something to do with the heat shield around the starter motor??? Any assitance would be great, its going to be a long summer if i have to walk everywhere or wait 20min for my ute to start each time Cheers Lachy |

Somewhere to start...for no $$ outlay...
My suggestion would be to get the ignition wiring loom (from the back of the barrel down the steering column) checked out for dodgy wiring and/or plugs. |

i'd go for the BEM as heat can distort electronic components.
If Im not wrong the XH is based on the EF?

bem - body electronic module. i'm not sure where they are located on xh's, but with ef's you just hit the dash just above your left knee and it will probably start. it's generally a dry solder joint/s that will cause it to do that.

It could be a BEM issue - keep an eye on the smartlock LED when you're cranking the engine.
Some info on the XH BEM: http://members.dodo.com.au/~algis/index5.htm
