Newbie post... Anyone got any ideas for installing cup holders in an XG Longreach Ute with bench seat? Apart from the useless 'clipon to the air vent' option, I think that the area below the ashtray is a good option. Or I could replace the ashtray - cig lighter panel completely with something ripped off another vehicle.

I'm thinking something like the dual slide out holders found in Lantras, or even the cheapy jobs in things like Mits Tritons. I'm gonna have a wander around the wreckers soon, just thought I'd check if any of you guys have some ideas...

Unfortunately no centre console.

Space might be a bit tight around the stereo headunit area.

u could always put bucket seats in...extremely easy and free if u have a good rubbish tip ;) I have an idea tho...just throwin it out there. I work in a marine mechanics shop and the marine cup holders are like these squares that can bolt onto ur doors or dash or wateva and wen u want to use them they drop down and have a cup holder...ill try and get a pic if u want?

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I was trying to avoid replacing the entire dash just to get cup holders, but then again, they are an essential piece of driving equipment these days :)

@Kapul, would you believe I already have a couple of those marine cup holders, I considered spraying them to match the interior and mounting them on the doors, below the window winder, but I was going for a more elegant solution to start with.

As far as replacing the front with buckets, that is an option but I actually like the bench at the moment! Weird...

I am wondering about using the back of the centre armrest? I could sink two recessed cup holders into it, just need to work out how to tidy up the surrounding cloth, foam etc.

Thanks for the ideas, good forum this...

hmm for the cup holders take a hacksaw into the movies :P

you'd be best to take the centre armrest and cupholders to a proper place to get it done. because i imagine it would be hard to make look nice otherwise

Well, we've got a Gold Class Cinema opening up here next month, maybe I could flog one of the seats and rip the armrest off that :D

Mind you, the movie armrest would look wicked cool in the middle of the bench seat :)

Now, the ashtray is about the same width as a CDROM drawer, and they run off 12volts... hmmm.
