What type of amp. I would suggest its the amp not the space because my two amps with 1300rms total are wedged between my back seats and gas tanks and even after pumping them hard for ages they only get warm.

you will find its a combo of either little to no air flow and probably a poor heatsink design on the amp itself. would suggest relocating them mate, i never recommend them under the seat for that reason, being a ute i know ya limited on cabin space, but you could go the back wall behind the seats or rig up some fans to move the heat away from under the seats. amps are prone to over heating and cutting out, this can also be hte case if wired up wrong, by putting to much load on when bridging subs

If it is mounted on carpet then there is little or no thermal conductivity to the chassis so all the cooling it gets is by airflow across the heatsink, this would not be a problem for areas like the boot but under the seat it might not be getting sufficient air flow. Your options are increase the airflow as suggested by a fan, mount it in closer contact to the chassis or relocate it..

More than likely the amp is being over driven.
