they use VHT vinal and plastic paint. Its better for thing like dashes. My mate painted his astra dash with some cheapcrappy paint and it comes of easy. I used plastic and vinal paint (not VHT) and it it far harder to scratch and make look bad. check out my colour project- paint it black

Vinyl Spray soaks into the plastic. Normal spray paint would require plastic primer and may still crack if the area painted is flexed.

winyl spray will not soak into plastic, it will do the same as any other spray paint. the vinyl paint will only "soak" into material that is vinyl like the main part of the dash board. the rest you can do with any paint you like. it shouldt crack at all if u prep it correctly.
to do this is simple as a good wash in water with a little soap, a light sand to get any armorall off and then a final wash in water before painting |

Sorry my bad, I meant soak into vinyl, and the need for it as vinyl parts are usually very flexible. If you paint vinyl with regular paint it will crack even with the best preparation.
I wouldn't say the best was a wash with soapy water, try prepsol or isopropyl alcohol to ensure all grease, waxes etc are removed and then prime plastics with plastic primer.

depends really, i wasnt going to justify the $20 odd dollars for the prepsol like stuff at auto pro as its a huge tin and i didnt need it all, i just used a bit of soapy water and sanded it lightly, then wash off good in normal water.
to this day the paint hasnt cracked or peeled on the facia of my dash, although it has light scratches due to my carelessness and only 2 coats of paint. |
