Just wondering whether one of the fully adjustable shift kits would give my auto XR8 quicker downshifts when I put the foot down when going to overtake etc? Also when fitting one of these to a V8 the pins that you cut into are on the TCM and not the actual ECU correct?

would probably be a little quicker, and a s**t firmer, but it wouldnt be phenomonal though. as to what you cut into there is a thread on here that covers shift kits that had all the info for the i6's and the v8s for most models

Cool might look into setting one up. I want it so that when I am going through the pass and want to overtake it doesn't hesitate for so long when kicking down to second or first gear. Seen your car parked behind target yesterday. Very nice looking car. Have you got a shift kit in yours?

You still have the delay before it decides to shift, but then when it does, yes, it's just as firm as an upshift. So planting your foot at 50-60 can have quite a punchy result

As above, it doesn't change when the change occurs, but it does make the change firmer/quicker.
I've only done one V8 (a NL Fairlane), but all the wiring occurs at the TCM in the drivers footwell.

Try taking it out of Econ mode, that will make it shift sooner, shouldn't it?

I think that just makes it change later.

I always leave it in power mode. I was just wondering whether the shift kit actually improves that slight delay that you get when it downshifts. For example when you are behind a truck doing 80km/h the car is sitting in top gear. When you dump the accelerator and take off to over take the trans has a delay when it decides what gear to select either second or third and then takes off. That is the delay that I want to improve.

Nothing you can do about that. Unless you can reprogram the ECU.

I didn't think that it would work. Oh well you still get better upshifts I guess. The easy way to get around it would be just to manually select second before you go to overtake. That way you don't get that slight delay.

sorry to move thread off-topic, but is there are any harm in driving an auto changing the gears manually?
I think the delay in upshift could be the throttle cable or kickdown cable.

I am not sure whether that would cause any damage or not. Bit stupid if they allow you to have the ability to change manually if it actually stuffs the auto. Also I think the box in the EL is full electronic so I don't think it would have cables etc.
