I have a problem with the horn and cruise control not working. It is a HH XR8, I'm not sure if it is even the original steering wheel as I don't believe it has an airbag. There is nothing on hte wheel that says so and when you remove the cover all that is there is a round spongy thing. Any ideas as to why these things aren't working?

Probably find the clock spring behind the steering wheel has broken.
I assume you've checked all the fuses. I think the horn has its own fuse. The cruise control uses the stop lamp fuse. There is also a plug at the base of the column with 3 thin wires in it (from memory), make sure its plugged in and not hanging loose. |

Can't find a fuse for the horn, is it under the dash or bonnet? Also one of my brake lights is blown would that cause the Cruise to not work?

How do I tell if the air bag is still there. Underneath the cover there is a round thing about the size of a large orange. If it's not there what price would I be looking at to get it replaced. I've never seen an airbag so I'm not sure what I'm looking for. How hard is it to change the clock spring?

AirBag was optional on XH utes - if it's a GLi then likely it never have had one - what does your steering wheel look like (post a pic).
If both the horn and cruise don't work it's either, as already suggested, steering column wiring is not well or a broken clock spring - I would consult an auto electrician.

Definatly no airbag nothing is written on the steering wheel. Apparently in the XH XR8 the airbag is optional. Also there are no sensors around the front to indicate that there was an airbag.

XH ute with & without airbag steering wheels.
Given there is no crash sensor in the front, it obviously never came with an airbag.. So back to your original problem.. consult an auto electrician.

I was told that the airbag was optional on the XR8. I have the wheel in the second photo and there is nothing behind the cover and never was, so lucky for me i guess. Just have to sort out the horn and cruise. I have one conector at the base of the steering colunm, it is a two prong connector with a white/grey wire and the other orange/grey. Don't really want to buy a new clock spring without looking at everything first.

XH series I: airbag std on the 'S' model, optional on the rest.
XH series II: probably same deal as series I - I don't have data to confirm. Pic 2 has cruise fitted, hence the EF/EL wheel - the badge covers the SRS emblem, as SRS is not fitted in this case. Back on topic: If you've got a decent wiring diagram, it shouldn't be hard to find where the break lies - as mentioned the clock spring, or the connectors under the airbag cover.
