Nope. The shifter is connected to a valve inside the transmission that delivers the fluid to different parts of the gearbox depending on where the shifter is selected. The only time you can actually select 1, 2, 3, or 4 electronically is when the gearbox is in D.

i think the different voltages your thinking about are for the input in to the dash cluster. tells it what gear is selected and stuff.
if you can get it up and running, put a tech doco up. or if its beyond the realm of meare mortals sell them, you'll make a killing
