Hi all,
Just want to know what is needed to complete an AU engine conversion into an EF falcon? I have the engine and I know the sump needs to be modified. What can I do about that? Are there any other mods required? |

Hi Twason. Thanks for your info. I did try using the search engine, but did not give me anything helpful. I think I needed to change my search options.
Anyway, I see that your car is Gas, as is mine. Where do your water supply lines for the gas converter run too? I have one that runs to a heater hose and another that runs to the thermostat housing. |

I have done it. I modified the K-Frame by cutting it, and plating with 65 x 6mm plate. Thats all I could. I arc welded it all in place. No problem as the K-frame is made of 3mm anyway. Once complete, I smoothed it out and painted. All good. Will show pics soon. Twason recommended a cut that is 65mm x 210mm. I did a cut that went to the centre of the K-frame and about 220mm.
In regards to the engine, I did not touch the sump. I used the AU engine mounts as they fit. For the knock sensor, Twason mentioned making up an adapter bolt to suit the EF sensor. Well ford was smart. They have a thread hole in the AU block that is the same as the EF. However they made a stud that fit into the larger thread and came down to the M8 thread. Simply remove this stud and the EF knock sensor would bolt straight into it. AU Exhaust was used. EF crank angle sensor was used and slightly modified. EF A/C spacers were reduced by 10mm. Used the top half of the EF manifold only as the AU one had new injectors and other parts. However the AU manifold top can be easily modified to take the MAP sensor tube and to change the carbon valve. I did not have time to do this but will do it in future. Modified the wiring harnes to add wiring for the temp sensor in the back of the head. This way I still have the original sensor plug connected. I did not get an AU belhousing but will when I need to do the box. Overall, was an easy conversion. Only problems was rain as it prevented me doing any work. Will run it soon as i need to do the final touchups of connecting some things. |

Im back. Car is finished.
I started it prior to putting the belt, radiator, thermofans and it went first kick. I primed the oil system by cranking it for a short while without the injectors being plugged in. After it went, I stoped it and replaced all the above mentioned things. Once it was filled up with water, I ran it to bleed and to warm it before driving it. It feels good. Nice and smooth as compared to the old 710 000km engine. Im surprised that I got the timing correct seeing as I did not remove the rocker cover. Lucky dip I guess. |
