Just been reading the stickes on how to upgrade your car cheaply, one suggestion is an AUii xr8 snorkel instead of my stock on in the EF, my questions is this...
Does it really do anything or give you any gains?

I went the full hog and fitted the Aunger CAI, which has much larger mouth and larger entry to the air filter box and I didn't notice anything.
But for the price of the genuine Ford ones that are larger I don't see any reason not to do it if your going to mod your car. |

you should notice a little bit more responsive throttle.. but i'm not to sure on the E series... but the Ba's definatly got better

It won't do all that much on a stock engine. If you go further with modding (e.g. cam, headwork, etc.), then it'll become essential.

beat me to it ^^ what he said. When your car is actually gonna benefit from the extra airflow (eg: exhaust/cam) then it makes a difference. Think of it as a performance multiplier.

Any improvement is still an improvement. But, as data_mine and smiley235 said, to get the most out of it you need to combine it with other mods. The other thing is, a bigger snorkel will increase the effectiveness of a high flow filter, other intake mods and probably exhaust mods as well.

Although i did notice the difference on my EF when i went down through the airbox to the front bar with a 3 inch pipe. Never noticed anything with going to a bigger snorkel, my 5.0 has the Aunger and i noticed nothing. |

I think the nest thing would be to get a custom job to the bumper to get a cold air "ram". I am not too sure about this punching of holes in the airbox... would there be hot air from the engine mixing in?

No, not much. As said. An engine can only 'breathe' so much. The stock induction system is pretty darn good for a stock engine. Once you start modifing the engine, the induction system ain't so good and needs some help.
Help being, - bigger snorkel - high flow filter - larger intake pipe
