Hey guys, i just got a second Ignition Barrel and key to aid in the bypassing of smartlock so i can use my Remote Start feature on the alarm, which i have already wired up.
What is the correct way of going about this? i understand i have to wire the barrel in parallel with the key in it, but where should i splice into the wiring? Any help would be appreciated, Cheers

eerr.... i have no idea, so dont quote me, but shouldnt the barrel be wired in series?
if wired in parralel, you wont need the second key to start the car.... |

I didn't splice anything.
I just cable tied the lock assy up under the dash with the key in the run position and just pulled the smartlock plug from the steering column and plugged the second barrel into that..

Wont that disable smartlock permanently, enabling anyone to start the car if they pick the lock?

Why install that because the smart lock is much harder to disarm then a after market job.

for the ease of remote start. its all connected and ready to go... but smartlock is disabling it. if i disable smartlock, i get remote start.
i live in a fairly safe area... and i park inside my work building. if they can get into my car without setting off my alarm, which is armed all doors, boot, bonnet, shock.... and manage to get it started without the alarm immobilsing the car... then good on them. smartlock was never gonna stop them

If someone picks the lock then they've bypassed smartlock anyway. It's only really good for hotwirer's.. Smartlock is just a plastic serated disc that spins with the key turn and triggers a couple of light sensors, the little circiut board in the back of your ign barrel then sends a signal to the BEM which then allows the starter to fire and also sends a coded signal to the ECU to allow it to operate. But I also have a safe park at work and home so I like the remote start. And if I have to park in a s**t area then a reach under the dash to remove the key from the second barrel leaves the car totally unstartable..

ah too true. i forgot to mention that... removing the key from the secondary barrel enables smartlock again.
Plus, every now and again, i have to hold the key over to 'ON' for about 30 seconds so it starts. i think smartlock is taking a little longer than usual to 'realise' theres a key in the barrel. So the way to do this is to plug the smartlock plug from steering column into the barrel? thats it? seems like a 10 min job including hiding the barrel... might even attempt it tomorrow.. can someone confirm this is the way to do it? cheers
