Mines passed roadworthy with about 15 clicks before it starts to grab. I'd like it a bit lower. How do you adjust the cable?

How do you adjust the cable? the best way and not the easiest is to remove the disk and adjust the shoes in the disk recess, adjust so disk just turns free on both sides, then pull hand brake lever to check, cables may be streched, and readjust -untill you are about 5 clicks to lock and it releases properly.if you adjust cables only, you strech them and doesnt fix the problem, wear on the shoes.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that... I couldn't find an adjustment on the cable anywhere so off the wheels come.

There is a sort of adjustment screw...its right up at the handbrake itself..remove the cover from it and the screw is under there...but as was said, the only real way is to remove the disk and adjust...

back off the ten mm nut under the handle cover, you can
adjust it through the hole behind the rubber grommet with a torch and a flat blade screw driver give it say 6-8 flicks or hits on the adjuster, pull the cable up just behind the backing plate hard as you want keep adjusting till you have bout 10mm gap between backing plate and cable then do the 10 mm at the handle up till you have a good grab. thats from memory, anyone agree or disagree? |

is it an old wives tale they are self adjusting? you slowely reverse and apply the handbrake and they will self adjust ?

pfft now you all tell me after I grotted myself up in brake dust pulling the rear discs off
Award goes to ford for making the silliest adjustment method for a handbrake inside the rear disc. Heaps of fudging around because I coudln't get one of the axles out since I didn't have a puller, pain in the a*** to get it back in after adjusting the stopper screw at the top of the handbrake shoe. 3 clicks till it grabs now, muuuuuuuuch better |
