Dumb question -

I have a standard 91LE auto in an ED Fairmont.
I've never actually been able to redline the engine with the auto in drive.
Is this standard? Does the ECU control the auto shift points?
If so, can it be changed?

Yes the ECU will control the shift points, but not based on RPM, it is based on the speed sender pulse rates. Has the diff been changed to a different ratio?

I don't think its possible to readline the auto in drive, the highest I've had it from kickdown back to 1st was about 5200rpm, if you lock it in 1st gear it will hit the redline. I never took my ED engine to redline, but have taken the EL engine now fitted to the limiter 5750rpm. I'm not sure if the ED has a limiter or what rpm it cuts in at

Not a different ratio as yet, though that will change in the next two weeks.

HP hungry - The ED has the same fuel cutout - 5750rpm.
Can hit it if it's locked in 1st etc - but it's rather difficult to judge the shift point when doing so manually. Either you end up shifting slightly too early, or you bounce off the limiter.

twason - is it possible to reprogram the ECU to change according to RPM?
Currently have a Unichip installed, though I doubt that'll help a whole lot with the shifting.

Also, I'm fairly certain that I've seen 4.0ltr engines revved all the way up to 7000. Not sure how long those engines'd last, but it'd be interesting to find out.
