Hey guys. I've recently done the AU motor conversion into my EB II. I'm running EL ecu and dizzy instead of coil packs. I have replaced distributor, cap, leads, plugs and pretty much everything else. However the engine still misses between 1500-2000rpm when in load or cruising. I am running a new set of spark plugs designed the the AUIII motor (which I have). Could this possibly be the problem? I chose to use the AU III plugs coz thats what the motor was. However I'm thinking that maybe when using an older dizzy style ignition instead of coilpacks that I should be using sparkplugs designed for an EL or my EB.
Could someone who has done the conversion please let me know if perhaps I should be using EL spark plugs in my AU motor. Plz help guys. I've spent sooo much time and money trying to fix this problem and really want it to be over.

Nope, Spark plugs to suit motor. Another plug you could try is BP6ES. Worked fine in my ED. One heatrange colder than XE spark plugs.
Have you tried replacing the coil, dissy, TFI or the cap and rotor with new parts? Have you given the motor a compression test? I had this same problem on an injected XF some time ago. Turned out to be crook injector plug that had fallen off. Could also be a dud injector, or someone may have used a CPI manifold gasket instead of the MPFI gasket. MPFI gasket has Injector cutouts... Wouldnt be the first time its happend!

Hello. Yes I have replaced dizzy, cap, rotor and leads with brand new parts. Have not replaced the coil though. What is the best way to test injectors? I've disconnected that vacuum line from the fuel reg but it turned out the same.
I will give the motor a compression test on the weekend (although a comp test was done when i bought it).

If it misfires at idle, remove one injector plug at a time then replace and try the next one... you will no which cyl is playing up when the engine barely notices that the injector isnt firing.

the way we diagnose injector faults at work is to crimp the fuel return line from the injector rail. this pushes up the fuel pressure and usually if it is an injector problem the car will run smoother.
hope this helps Andrew. |
