my water/coolant was dissapearing, so me and my dad flushed it out and filled it back up, i asked him why i was losing water and he said through the air con, witch i have been using non stop for the past month, so i told my mate and he thinks my dad is full of s**t, does the air con actually use water or is my dad stupid? witch if my dad is wrong... i have a problem if water is goin misssing

Mate, I agree, your dad is full of s**t. I work with AC, and it doesnt use water.

When the air con is running on ANY vehicle, you will see it dripping water. This is from condensation. The gas turning back into liquid to be pumped through the compressor, from the compressor back into gas. Or some s**t like that.

Anyways, your water lose could be a few things. First of all, check your radiator hoses for cracks.

Then the thermostat housing for leaks. Then check the water pump area(under the power steering pump if on E-Series). Then check the radiator, if none of these are leaking and all are good, the fun part begins.

You will need to check around where the HEAD meets the BLOCK. If there is water leaking, or even traces of water were there, most likely you have a blown headgasket. Another common blownheadgasket is that you oil will be a milky colour. Same as the water in the resovoir.

You MIGHT have to run the engine and sit an look for a while as 9 times out of 10, the leaks are very visible.

Anyways, back to the point, your dad doesnt know what he's on about when it comes to this. Not to say he doesnt know anything, though.

he may of meant the heater core under the dash but other than that the a/c has no influence on coolant loss.

Check for external leaks especially down below the intake plenium. there is a couple of heater pipes down there that if not watched can let go and then you cook your motor.

If you have got a low level coolant switch in your reservoir then don't worry.

But if you don't then this is where ford engineers stuffed up big time.

The temp gauge on the dash on the thermostat housing will only read 3/4 if you run the car with no coolant as it will just measure air temp.

So you will think it's running a little bit warmer but nothing to be suprised about especially in summer.

you cook your motor and warp your alloy head and blow out your head gasket. $2000 repairs..

But most times when the heater core goes, your foot will get covered in water from the inside of car. But still, definately worth a look.

I hope you don't mean 2g to repair a head gasket. Coz I just done mine a few weeks ago for $320. Head not warped though, woulda had to add $350 for that.

well as it turns out i mis heard what my dad said, i asked would the air con be drinking the water and he said its NOT the air con, i thought he said 'its the air con, as for temp gauge it has been sitting just under the red box (92 eb falcon cluster) so ill keep an eye out for the gauge, i got the car for for free from a family member, it had a blown head gasket and warped head, so my dad got the engine re-built 80,000kms ago,
