Hi guys and dolls
I have just bought what may be the cleanest AU XR8 in the country - only 26,000 klms and stills smells new!! Its my first injected V8 (have a carby Windsor in the boat) and I'm wondering if there are any engine bolt ons that will make her run a bit better than stock. I'm not planning on taking her to the strip or anything silly at this stage - she'll be a daily driver but its always nice to show the manufacturer that they could have done it a little better!! I'll do suspension and brakes a little later. |

The 220KW variant wasn't too shabby at all. Save your money and keep the exhaust - its really not too bad.
Maybe look at a cam and intake package, and if you're still not satisfied then look at exhaust. Underdrive kits for the AU's are a little limited from memory, not as readily available as the EB-EL.

Yep, all AU V8's had GT40P heads (with the exception of some early T1/T2 cars that had GT40Y's).
There are no underdrive pulley kits available for the AU V8...nothing to stop someone getting some made up though. However the pulley, and crank angle sensor ring are integral with the harmonic balancer. Word on the street is that the AU accessories are already "underdriven" compared to earlier windsors, but I have never seen anyone measure pulley size to compare the pulley ratios. As has been said already, the AUIII XR8 was a very tidy package. Stock exhuast and extractors are already very good. The factory engine tune/calibration left a little to be desired though....very rich at WOT, and pulling out plenty of power in first gear (if its an auto). The std airbox/snorkel is marginal as well. I reckon a custom tune, and a Bluepower or G&D airbox would be the best way to go. Should give you enough grunt to run in the 13's, and cost not much more than $2000. |

nice choice of car... i picked up one of those motors up for my ef... having a little trouble but all in all i cant wait to state it up... ive driven a au3 with extractors, 2.75 mandrel exhaust. and i think he had a aftermarket cam in it. and i ran a solid 13.8 i was impressed. first and second on the auto pull preety hard... i think there is a sequince u can do with the brake or sumthing that can whack the auto in to a sports mode... i think... sum 1 on this forums told me i think... good luck with it... tough car... ...ps put a rebel kit on it... and paint it blue print... cant go wrong...
