Anyone had issues with coil packs on turbo EF's.. or other cars if they've gone coil packs?
I've just changed to my 4th coil pack (assuming it was the problem) is there anything the coil packs don't like? heat? vibration? Don't really wanna get to a point where i'm changing them every couple of months.

Use AU coil packs, better. Four is a bit unusual, sure it was them?

every time i've changed them, the problem has been fixed.
first one was hesitating when cold, then backfiring when given some decent load. second one started running on 5cyl third one just started backfiring when given decent load (boost) 4th one is fine so far. i've reduced the plug gap to .9mm to try and reduce the strain on em.

Those damn coils on the EF's suffer from the same problem even when not a turbo setup is that right?

i'm thinking if the coilpack isnt grounded properly.. and you have a screwed lead/plug
then when the coil fires it has no where to ground and can cause damage, i think i'll ground my coil pack properly

thats really odd. I am on my second coil pack since it was made from factory? It shouldnt be going through them like that. by the way, this post is of no help to you either LOL

I doubt earthing will help you much, as the primary side is earthed by the ECU to fire each of the 3 coils. On the secondary, each coil is connected to 2 spark plugs, i.e. 1&6, 2&5 and 3&4 so earth goes through the plug.
You could try temporarily relocating the coil pack away from engine heat (i.e. cable tying it somewhere), but of course you're constrained by the plug lead length - you'll want to stick with EF leads as having a bitza setup will cause problems later with replacement. You could put together a temp plug to attach to the stock power plug so you don't hack the car wiring at this stage. You could mount the coil pack somewhere on an aluminium heatshink - just cut some fins to help dispate heat. I can only think heat maybe an issue, and temporarily relocating it may make a difference on coil pack life, or at least show whether it makes a difference. That's about as far as my thinking can suggest.

my coil packs currently near the washer bottle.
i realise it earths through the leads/plugs, but in the unlikely event of 2 failing (leads & plugs do fail) then i guess it could have an effect.
