Did you install it yourself or did you get it done at a specialist?...if you did it yourself did you keep the old gasket or did you get a new 2.5" gasket...if you took it to the specialist they might have been dodgy and kept the old gasket...cleaned it and then chucked it back on meaning you have a bit of gasket hanging off in the inside and could have broken up during your high revving.

Was done at the shop.. some time ago and has been without problem. This all occured when the car was subject to high temp for an extended period (when someone else was driving it).
I'll have a good look at the gaskets on both sides though and see what I can see. -- no sign of damage on them. The gaskets used correctly match the size of the pipe aswell, ie exaust tapers to to 2.25 before connecting, and cat has 2.5" flange welded on for headers, there should be none of it really sticking out inside the pipe. Can also say this is not the gasket between the head and the headers as that is alluminium. Nice avatar btw Phongus, go the Qlimax!

Looks like char grilled exhaust gasket or exhaust manifold gasket to me... white smoke is oil burning though.. not a good sign really. Might be a good idea to start taking it a bit easier on the car and using some slighty thicker oil making sure you warm her up good every time.

If it was your head gasket you'd have more dramas.
From what I can gather its either parts of the inside of your cat being blown away or just some build up of oil/petrol/dirt that has decided to exit the system. My dad also agrees with this theory.

if your car is leaking water and you can't see where, chances are it's idling rough cause of a slight leak into one of the cylinders. a blown head gasket looks like 'cold morning start' white smoke, but once it's warmed up it's still there.
by the sounds of it, the water in your cat/mufflers is causing your exhaust to rust out and it seems as though it's getting spat out. this may also be helped along by your backfires. get the system pressure tested and that will tell you whats going on.

You have to look at it in the right way -
I just managed to screw up a piston.. So I'm having the engine rebuilt to Speedway specs. Nothing like having a race engine in a street car

bug - was just about to say thats your HG.
white smoke its actually steam its a possibility that the cat had stopped it for a while and then gave way, allowing the steam to escape - its happened to 2 of mums cars positive your gonna have a new head
