Just wondering what 5 speed or 4 speed manuals fit the T5 bellhousing or just simply bolts up to the block, read many of things of holden guys putting supra gearboxes etc etc, so i was wondering can these gearboxes like the celica gearbox/supra or anything
if you have read my posts over the past month my AUTO is s**t and was wondering of finding a cheaper route althought can source a ford t5 gearbox, pedals, ecu, etc etc for rouglhy 650 dollars, BUT are there boxes out there that will work. but i assume that i may need another tailshaft for some but yeah. Another Thing what T5 ie, EA/EB/ED/EF/EL/AU is the better box, i.e doesn't jump out of reverse.

Eb2 onwards is the "better box" there was a thread posted the other day by a member. the supra 5 speeds will bolt up with the use of a blehousing from castle main rod shop. around $260 im told. you will then nees a new tail shaft made and speedo gear. there are a whole heap of little things that you will need to do the conversion but none as simple as the T5 intended for the falcons.
to put it simply yes it can be done, i thought it would be quite cheap although i didnt factor in tailshafts and such other items. if you were to the get the box for free or very cheap then it might work out to be viable to go the supra option. iv also been told some landcruiser 5 speeds will bolt up with a new bellhousing but i havnt looked into it a great deal. |

cheers so EB2 is a better box...
did the bellhousing change from the first ea/eb 3.9 multi??? cause i am currently saving (VERY f**k SLOWLY) for the gear box and all that. will it bolt straght up to the block.. i want to know and be certain that i can go to a wreckers and say"T5 gearbox eb2 " etc etc and be able to fit it with no 'wrong gearbox' problems (i am sure i might encounter geoffrey problems eg duh) and that cheers

There are heaps of gearboxes that can be fitted, adapted or modified to go onto the back of the 4L. Old school C4's, toploaders, single rails, TH400 etc to 'modern' T5's, T5z's, T56, TH700, and the various supra boxes.
If your happy with a 5 speed manual and are not doing anything crazy with the engine (turbo/supercharger) go for a later e-series T5 (the later model the better). If you manage to break it there are lots of internal upgrades you can do and it will still probably work out cheaper than a conversion. Any T5 gearbox will fit, but get a pedal box to match your car (or a mal wood clutch pedal pin) and use an eb onwards flywheel and clutch (better/stronger).

the aml wood clutch pin you get from.. spuprise suprise. mal wood
its jsut a pin that goes though the auto pedal box and allows you to attach a clutch pedal. costs about $100 IIRC and takes 15 mins to install, worth it i rekon
