AU to EA-ED Due to the larger alloy sump the AU bottom end wont fit in the ea-ed k-frame as is. To get around this, grind the front of the sump until it fits. Easist to then fit a TFI dizzy in place of the cam angle sensor and install as EL engine. EL to EA-ED The EA-ED ECU is not tuned for the broadband manifold and will not be able to switch the runners at 3800rpm. There are 3 options for this conversion 1. Use the EA-ED manifolds, leave everything else the same 2. Use the EL engine complete with ECU and loom 3. Fit EL engine with EA-ED ecu and use a RPM switch to change the runners at 3800 rpm. This will get the runners switching but the tune will still be out. It is the timing that seems to be most affected resulting in either poorer low end performance or pinging on short runners. going by this, i can install an AU engine into my XG. but can i use the EB/ED manifold instead of BBM on the AU (like on the EL)? if i ran the above manifold, would i have to do the TFI dizzy? what is the average cost for a AU engine and gearbox? |

yes u can use the eb/ed manifold.
and your better off putting the dizzy in aswell. ( more aftermarket performance parts) average cost in wa is anywhere from 400- 700.. not sure about gearbox.. |

would it be easier running the serpentine setup? or run the EB/ED belt setup?

i guess it would be if you have the alternator and air-con pump and power steering pump...
i used the EA setup on mine because my air-con pump was just replaced.. and i didnt want to buy a new one.. also when i first did my conversion i used the log manifold. but if you use the log style manifold it will intefere with the EL/AU air-con pump... |

Just so you know, if you are going the BBM, you will have a few clearance issues on the radiator surge tank.
I got around this by moving the surge tank slightly, about an inch and then relocating the washer bottle. The sump of the AU also hits the sway bar, but this can be overcome with some modifications to the sway bar mounts. I am in the final stages of this conversion in my XG van. When it is all tidied up I can take some pics if you would like. |
