Just wondering if the gap settings are different for a 3.9, 4.0, XR6 4.0 ?

Thanks, well I can rule that out for the reason my car won't start, I've got new leads, dizzy cap, rotor button, the fuel pump primes, I can hear a sound at the injectors. The battery is low on charge so I have been getting a jump start but it still won't kick over.

Could be lots of things. Take the fuel line off at the fuel rail, get someone to turn the key to the KOEO position, if fuel pisses out everywhere you have fuel. Check for a low tension voltage at the ignition coil. I know it sounds obvious but make sure the coil works. Check that you actually have petrol in the petrol tank (That's got me before) check the ignition timing, did you get water in the dissy? Is the ECU working? I assume all the valves are opening and closing correctly, and that the distributor is actually turning? If not you have BIG problems. There's a few more things to check. Hope theese ideas can be of some assitance to you.

hey mate,
check to see if you have the dizzy 180 deg out. that was the problem with mine. Won't start at all coz the spark order is completely wrong. Just rotate the dizzy 180 deg and see if that helps.

There is plenty of fuel and the coil i have replaced with a used one that was working, the dizzy hasnt been taken out at all just loosened but then returned to how it was. I'm pretty sure it may be a lack of spark.

Had my mechanic look at the problem he found the alternator not charging, battery was flat as a tack and timing out. So I have replaced the alternator, charged the battery and it now starts first time everytime and idles smooth. I find the car doesn't seem to want to pick up until it reaches 40 to 45 kmh not sure if this is a problem from using the standard EB ECU with an ED XR6 motor.

Hi There
LPG / Petrol seems to use 0.8mm gap EL 4.0 is (assuming NGK) BPR5EY-11 (gap 1.1) standard on Petrol only BPR6EY (gap 0.8) on Petrol/Gas (Non Tickford) ZGR6B-11 (gap 1.1) Tickford / XR Petrol Only ZGR6B (gap 0.8) Tickford Factory Gas / Petrol AU's are BPR5EY-11 (gap 1.1) Petrol Only ZGR6B-11 (gap 1.1) Petrol Only (Tickford) BPR6EY (gap 0.8) AU LPG So, basically for LPG and Tickford use heat range 6. Non LPG Standard use heat range 5. For Petrol use gap 1.1 for gas or dual fuel use gap 0.8 |
