Hey guys i was in my mates new xr6t mkii the other day and yeah its fast and its powerful and stuff but i was hoping to build (hopefully alot of work done by me) a car capable of high 12 seconds i know it'll be a turbo car thus the title, i was looking at buying ef xr6 and rebuilding the engine to cope with around 300rwkws i think it would take to get into 12's...now how much do you guys rekon i could make an engine/box combo (looking at supra box) for? Or do you guys think going with an older capri (1970) with a 302 in it would get me into the 12's and this will be daily driven so musnt be a biatch to drive

Thanks guys

Theres a member on the forums running 11s on a unopened eb motor with 250odd rwkw, so your 300rwkw should see 12s no worries. Weight reduction and drivetrain will be your biggest worries id say.

go the EF - old cars are a b**ch for daily driving.

Mitch - this guy wants to run 12's so what do you mean go mild engine mods only. My suggestion is spend as much as you want and speak to some people who have done the turbo thing to see what they used, who did the work and what it all cost.

12's with a turbo should be no worries if it is set up right. If you expect to do this cheaply then you will be dissappointed. Any suggestions to the budget - i reckon around $8k depending on quality of parts used. Remember you will need new computer, injectors, exhaust etc. THese 3 items alone will cost you around $3 - $4k. Dont be put off but be realistic. What work you going to do yourself? The turbo kit can be bought from people like snort for around $3500, i think. Bolt it on, then you will need someone to make up exhuast to suit and wire up and tune computer.

If your going for 300rwkw neither the T5 or the auto will hold this power. There has been quite a few threads lately on transmission (both auto & manual) that will reliably hold this sort of power.

See the following thread for info on suitable trannys for boosted applications - http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... 05&start=0

This following prices are for a manual box stolen from pyroays post in above thread :D

$2,250 - T5 "Z" Spec
$5,000 - $6,000 TKO & Clutch
$8,000 - T56 6 Speed Gearbox & Clutch

These were form Mal Wood and i'd assume you would proabably be loooking at the TKO box.

budget for 8 grand on the turbo parts, plus eng/trans costs... there are cheaper ways to get into the 12s though but its the same old deal with any car you go for.
go for the turbo i6... just be prepared to break a few things along the way

Buy an XR6T.

Nicer car, easy to get into the 12's, no engineering to worry about.

If I wanted a 12 second daily driver that is what I would be doing. Or maybe a Gen 3 powered commodore.

But I don't need a daily driver and don't really want 12's either :P
