Over the past few days ive been doing some service and repairs to my EL Monty Ghia. Firstly the normal oil/filter change. Then noticed the sepentine belt had a defect after only 12 months, the belt had a split along the grooves which was also causing a squeeking sound. So replaced that then onto the transmission, replaced fluid and filter and then noticed a fair bit of play on the slip yoke. So removed the extenstion casing and took it to my mates at Transtyle in Hallam. They replaced the bush and seal for only $27.50 and now its so much quieter and smoother. I also replacaed the D bushes along with the rear upper control arms. Getting the wheel alignment tweeked today. After all that the ol' girl is running so smooth especially the trans as before it was harsh through the changes especially between 1 and 2. Today if the rain holds off i have to wash and then give her a good polish as im heading to the S.A coast boxing day and the salt spray isnt good for the paint.

Did you check the condition of the idler/tensioner pulleys?(noisy bearings).
Here's a tip, remove the cover over the fanbelt, they hold the heat in, and cause premature cracking of the belt. The very first of the AUs had a cover, like the EF/EL, then they deleted it, put an EA-ED cover on the P/S pump, to get 100,000kms out of the belt so no warranty claims for cracked belts. Have you ever changed the brakefluid & diff oil? How about the P/S fluid, it doesn't last forever either?
