can you tell me what year my engine is?(jg31am77893c) is the engine number it needs top end work there is a loud rattle from valve cover area cheers:Dave

the engine will have a 3 digit prefix ie: 110,108 etc

this number will be the beginning of the part number written on most components. what kind of engine is it? 4,6 or 8? up to a certain point most merc engines had adjustable rockers so before u spend a heap of money on it, it couldbe something simple.

a pic of the engine with the air cleaner removed would be perfect.

now i am asking the right question the merc has a six cylinder ford engine that needs a bit of top end work any ideas (JG31AM77893C) is the engine number.thanks for your help last time look forward to any info on mods to improve performance on this motor.cheers

my guess would be a 250 xflo im pretty certain that the 250 from my xe had tht prefix...
