workshop manual says to remove crankshaft balancer first inorder to remove water pump - is this necessary?

any1 tried a racer water pump RWP-3079A from ebay seems cheap $35 with pulley fitted

well if the manual says that then dop that. i dont think you would need to do that unless you cant get the pump out.

It helps if you put what car but seeing as EA-AU motors are similar we can just assume..

Dont get things like pumps off ebay but just soend the money on a brand new on from repco or ford.

sorry its on a EL 4.0l

and just because the manual says to remove the balancer i wont if i dont have to - i hate unnecessary work and it looks like it will come off without removing this but if it does need to come off i will need a puller and that was my point in asking so i would have the necessary tools to complete the job

u dont have to.

i suppose it says to disconnect the battery and support the vehicle on stands too

No, you don't have to remove the Harmonic balancer to remove the water pump. Just remove the belt/s and the P/S pump, don't remove the hoses from the P/S pump, just let it hang at the back, near the exh manifold. then take off your W/pump. Piece of p**s.

When putting the water pump back on, make sure you put some vaseline on the o ring that goes in the back on the water pipe. this will make it much easier to get to seal right. have fun!

thanks - i didnt think it did but i just wanted to check b4 i started - i bloody hate it when you get half way thru a job and you find you dont have the correct materials or tools to complete it

nah dont worry bout removin the harmonic balancer or power steering pump off no need to . i have used a water pump of ebay round the same price with the pully fitted and have had no troubles with it(only got it cause dad was been cheap after he crashed my car) but havnt had a single problem just use some loctite black max or rtv blue and your sweet as :D :lol: :wink:
