i got a XF 6 cylinder carby motor.
When its running in drive or reverse when it has warmed right up it tends to stall if you come to a complete halt. I did the nut that pushes the throttle up and it was revving to high to chenge gears right cause it would jump. But when u back it off it doesnt idle. Now im thinking i should advance the timing from 4-7 degrees from where it currently is. Will this fix the problem? TO advance the timing on this beast i just have to turn the distributer a small amount to the right???right??/

What model is it Stomper? for leaded carby, you block the vacuum off at the dizzy to set the timing @10btdc- auto+/-2
@6btdc- manual+/-2 For unleaded carby with EST, you gotta short the 2 wires on the plug hanging ` round the brake booster, `tis a funny looking 5 pin plug with only 2 wires, bent bit of tie-wire works well...(remember to pull it out when you`re done), set timing to 10btdc. Now on EFI models, there`s a green plug hanging near the dizzy...looks sorta like a fuse, but you don`t wanna know about that, do ya... With a timing light on, as you won`t know otherwise turn the dizzy to get your base timing, if it`s an EST model, I would`nt recommend trying to advance it as the thing will just adjust itself anyway if it`s in good shape...with a vac-advance dizzy, you could get away with a couple degrees adv` but make sure it don`t start to ping. running 98RON will help a little, try it on the road...back it off if necessary. there isn`t much room to move with low revving engines/20yr old ignition systems/no EMS... Once your timing`s right, set your idle speed, this varies with models also: auto:675-725 manual:775-825 this is with the engine at operating temp, choke full open, aircon off. Don`t wanna sound lika a pedant but make sure the plugs are good and gapped properly, the air cleaner`s clean, there`s no induction leaks (even little ones),all the usual suspects are eliminated. might wanna check the accel` and kickdown cable are set properly too. i dont mean to highjack the thread but i have sorta the same problem with my LPG EA 5 speed. when im driving along, and put the clutch in, it splutters and carrys on and then stalls (not good when doing 60kmh around a corner and suddenly you lose ur power steering ). i bumped the idle up to around 1250rpm but its still doing it. i disconnected the electronic idle control for a while but that didnt help. anyone got any ideas?

Sorry, just read the post properly...does it only do it when warmed up?
what about in Neutral/Park? as I said, there aint much to gain in timing as per stocky petrol but give it a go...forget which way is adv/retard. use a timing light though. JAIKAI |

well it starts and moves fine cold. When it gets warm there is a 80% rate that it will stall at the lights.
Its got a 20% chance it stalls when its in neutral.
