i'm in the middle of doing a head gasket change, and i found that some a**hole has cut the guts out of the thermostat. the cars on gas so do people do this with gas conversions?? (stupid qustion i know) or has the car yard i brought the car off 6 months ago tryed to hide a over heating problem??

Its possible, as there are some dodgy dealerships out there.
I'm assuming your referring to the main valve in the body of the thermostat? As some LPG installers will drill holes in the lower valve, to insure the converter gets adequate water to prevent it from freezing. However a fully working cooling system does not need any modifications to keep the car running at the correct temp. What temp thermostat is in it? should be 92ºc. If the car wont run at the correct temp with a 92º in it then drilling or cutting holes in it wont fix the underlying problem/s.
