Ive just been doing sum mods to my grill, and have painted it undercoated, and now im painting it in heritage green. Now once ive finished all my coats and they dry im gonna use a cutting compound to bring up the paint nice and glossy. what i wanted to know is can i use the cutting compound like straight after ive finished spraying once its dry of course on the same day sort of thing? Or do I leave it for a few days then cut it back then apply the clear coat?
Cheers Steven

I wouldn't polish any thing until after you have applied clear coat.
If you try to clear a surface that has polish on it, you will get a very nasty finish.

I dont mean a actual polish, I mean the cutting compound you use to take a thin layer of once all ur colour coats are done, so that the paint comes up nice and smooth and glossy, so you can then clear coat it. Its nt a cut and polish, it is a special cut used for when you have sprayed something. Ive put the grill back on the car for now, il leave it for a few days then cut it back and clear coat it
Cheers

Cheers Clear coat it first, then colour sand it then polish. If you have a silicone based polish, you will never get any clear on it. You can block the paint to a finish, then clear it too |

4 - 6 double header coats for top coat colour, wait 24 hrs, then do 4 double header coats of clear for good coverage, wait a day, then cut and polish

Heritage green, thats a metallic isn't it? The last thing you want to do is cut back a metallic without applying clear first. Thats what the clear is for, to protect the metallic paint.
Cut the clear coat back after a few days.

Go to a automotive paint shop, not bunnings.
