I have an EF Fairmont which has a few problems
When I turn my engine on it sounds sweet but when I turn my steering left or right with the gear in park, it makes a loud shuddering noise, and also when I turn the aircon on the same type of noise happens.. .....any ideas what it could be... any help appreciated.. ??? its got me stuffed because when I drive it, there is no loss of power or engine noise that I can tell.. Ive checked the power steering fluid.. ok I topped up oil in the transmission I topped up oil in the engine |

When you turn your steering wheel does it make a sound like a gas leak
if so thats ur power steering pump activating and your aircon makes a clicking sound when you hit the button that would have to be the aircon's compresure powering up

What is the condition of the P/S fluid? The P/S fliud could be off? Check the level of the fluid & check for leaks, eg: P/S switch, rack boots, hoses, etc...
The 95 model EFs had ATF as the P/S fluid, and in 96 they changed to the Mobil 424 Tractor transmission fluid to put in it. This fluid lasts a lot longer, is slightly thicker, makes the system operate quieter.

That's a sure fire way to stuff your steering components & front tyres Front tyres, yes. Steering, nope. Unless you hold it on full lock for 5 or more seconds, thats when you start damaging valves. Thats if you continue to do it within a month each day. I don't want people going out there doin it, then comin back tellin me im wrong. Anyways, your aircon, when you turn on, the clutch will engage and you will here ONE big click. If it continues to make noises, then its either low on gas(meaning its leaking somewhere) or your clutch could be buggered(what caused it to f**k up in the first place). As for your steering, when in park, if there is a blockage, it will make this very very drony noise. You will have to check to see it its your pump, or your rack. If your not losing any fluid, sounds like the 2nd o-ring in the pump housing. Is just behind a thrust plate that needs to be sealed off.

It sounds like the ECU or Idle senseing unit is not adjusting the idle to compensate the load placed on it during idleing. Remember power steering and air conditioning units place a load on the motor and if it is at idle it's not being compensated for.
