I picked up some Valvoline Formula F power steering fluid , After I got it home I read it is specifically made for EL and AU fords, can I use this in my EF as I am installing a new rack?

I would check your car manual as to what fluid to use. Remember certain fluids can affect the seals.

I can't give a 100% certain response here, but i think the only difference with this fluid is that it can handle higher temps. So should be fine in your EF...

Don't quote me though...

I currently run the Ford P/S fluid p# R1-424, (Mobil 424) in my 88EA and have had no probs. Has been in there now for over 3 years. I use to use it in falcons where the people complained of a squeaking noise in the steering, from the rack, so flush & changed fliud to 424.
This fluid is a tractor transmission fluid, handles high temps very well.

IIRC dexron was recommended up to and including EF's - but I've been told that dexron will deteriorate seals.

You can also run castrol syntrans 75w, it's a bit more expensive but is good also.
I know the valvoline stuff you're talking about Tony - unfortunately the container doesn't give you much specs about the fluid - investigate it more just in case it may be relabelled dexron.

I run Mobilefluid 424 as mentioned - no probs. If in doubt, use this oil.

Valvoline Formula F is Valvolines equivalent of Mobilfluid 424
