Guys,
I have a 1988 Nissan Patrol (4x4) that I'm in the process of putting an injected 351 Windsor out of a 1991 f350 ex-ambulance and have a few questions/issues about the pulley/belt system on it It's a serpentine belt set up (one very very large fan belt) The ambulance motor had 2 alternators, power steer, aircon, as well as a few idler pulleys on it Out of all that, the pulleys I need are: crankshaft, water pump, alternator, power steer and aircon Is it worthwhile keeping the serpentine belt setup? Or should I convert to a twin belt setup (separate belt(s) for aircon/power steer), with the possibility of a gilmer drive at a later stage As I'm missing the aircon/power steer pumps at the moment (and the bracket that bolts to the left hand side head), would I be better off getting them from an older f-series engine? or should I try to get it all from the f350 (or EB v8), and keep the serpentine belt? thanks in advance! |

keep the belt if it all fits up in the patrol engine bay

Definitely keep the serpentine drive.
Get the pwr steer/Air cond bracket from an F-series wrecker. EB-up Falcons use a different setup which has different water pump/timing cover than yours. The EB-up setup is also less compact than the F-series stuff which is a little closer to the centre line of the engine...possibly an advantage in your case? If you switch to a gilmer or V-belt setup you'll need to change both your water pump and timing cover back to the early V-belt type which is not reverse rotation. So it's big expense for an inferior setup. Pete. |
