HI this is Mary i am champs fiancee. i am currently trying to fix his car.
it is an eb ser2 92 model 4litre fuel injection 4 speed auto. when driving open hwy, it will go up through the gears, click into over drive and economy and as soon as you lift your foot of the throttle a little bit to sit on 110 it will click out of economy into power mode. was thinking it was the gear box so took it out to test in another car...nothing wrong. Thought it was computers so replaced...still nothing. computers work no porbs in other cars. Changed power eco button, still no change. Even changed the wiring loom for gearbox from another gearbox. sensors are working fine. Now what? Mary (with champs account) |

What are you actually meaning ??? Because when I read this I picture the instrument cluster power caption illuminating.
If you're actually meaning the torque converter is unlocking, then this is normal - happens when you coast, etc, anytime you don't have power on. Apply power to maintain speed, and the TC will lock again.

what you are describing sounds normal to me
Regardless of whether i am in power mode or not, my car shifts into 4 fourth at about 80 km/h, but i don't apply lots of throttle when cruising

Anyway the revs are going up and down on 110. you lift your foot. and it slips like it is in neutral. i keep my foot where it is and it slips up and down. |

i had a 5l fairlane at work that used to play up like this. it ended up being the inhibitor/gear position switch playing up. jammed a new one on, and robert's your mother's brother. this is another avenue to explore.

the only thing is im talking about a EB SERIES 2 not a EA with a kickdown cable, and by the way the ea series 2 30th ann. does not have a kick down cable. (which is the one we own)In the workshop manual it mentions that the kickdown cable is on a car with a 3 speed auto not a 4 speed auto.So is thier any other ideas that it could be? |

ok if its the convertor locking and unlocking making the car to do this why is it that my partners ea series 2 30th ann with electronic 4 speed gearbox (no different to ea-ef)does not have the same problem. With the ea series 2 as you take up the highway as soon as you get to 85 km/h the covertor locks and will not unlock untill it either kicks back or you use power/economy button. When you do the same in my eb series 2 with 4l mpfi with a ef 4 speed elec auto as i said before it will lock in wounce you get to 85 km/h then when you get to around 110 km/h the convertor will unlock and lock.when you lightly take foot of pedal it unlocks and when you put foot back on pedal it locks.THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR IT TO HAPPEN,BECASE THE EA DOESNT. |
