Hi everyone, bit new to this stuff but love this forum. I was hoping for some advice. Disconnected battery on my XG XR6 manual ute and now it won't idle until hot and even then its rough. If I rev it more often than not it stalls when returning to idle. Apart from this runs fine. Is this problem easily fixed. Will gratefully accept any advice!

drive it till it gets to operation temp (91 deg) and then just keep it idling for a while, ecu need to relearn. running it on AC max might help it learn a bit quicker too
welcome to fordmods

Hmm I know once you disconnect the battery for a bit it resets the ECU. I know in my au if I disconnect it its a bit rough for about the first 20 mins. All I can think of is try and drive it for 20 mins and see if its still as bad. Also why did you disconnect it ? If it was to do work on it maybe its something to do with that

how long has it been since u disconnected the battery, sounds like u have reset the ecu, in which case take it for a drive and it will sort itself out. welcome to the forums

the thing is it relearns the fuel map while driving, you could drive to melbourne but because the revs are at 1500 - 1800 it will only learn to map that area.
if the engine is cold it can't use the oxy sensor and is in open loop mode. so only when its in closed mode with no throttle percentage will it relearn to idle

Silly Question but could it have something to do with the electronic choke maybe?? I had something similar with my EB when I had it and that what the mechanic dude said it was, mucked around with that and it was all good after that... Just a thought...

fuel injected cars shouldn't have auto chokes. the ecu dials up a gut full of fuel during the crank to do the job

My ED did similar after sitting at the airport for a week and going flat. Was fine when driving but try and idle and it was a different story. After changing plugs and leads and getting now where, I cleaned the throttle body and away it went good as gold. Teach me for being slack and not keeping it clean in the first place. Guessing the computer ajusted itself as it got dirtier, but had no hope of reseting itself with the throttle body that dirty.

my EF does this, even if i take the battery off for a few seconds just keep driving, all will become good once again!

All you guys should read the posts on resetting idle speed CORRECTLY and you would NOT have any problems.
1. get motor to operating temp then leave idling while the following tests are performed, making sure the brakes are applied 2. Idle motor with ALL accessories OFF for 2 minutes 3.Idle motor with A/C on for 2 minutes 4. Idle motor in drive with A/C OFF for 2 minutes 5. Idle moter in drive with A/C ON for 2 minutes Do NOT touch the accelerator during these Tests. This routine is from the ford workshop manual and DOES work if properly carried out. I know it takes a little time to do but I have found after doing this over 100 times to mine and other cars that it is the best way to a correct idle.
