Sounds like either a rear wheel bearing or planetry gears in the diff centre (if you have an open wheeler)

sounds like the same problem as me.... and my rear wheel bearings are rooted. I'm betting this is your problem too...

I think I am beginning to link this with any pre BA falcon that has copped bit of a hard time - Don't think the bearings appreciate it much

Of course it will seem fine as its not under load. Have you checked the diff fluid to make sure its up to level and in good order? Also did you mark the position where the drive shaft mounted onto the diff flange? If not the driveline may have imbalance if bolted back up in the wrong postion.

Same sort of thing in mine. Does the rumble stay constant with a dull up and down pitch at 80kmh with econ set to on. Mine does. My wheel bearings are good and the diff is new. Sounds like the auto.

When you had it jacked up did you check the wheel bearings?

With mine, you can get it to move about 1mm up and down! Can't be doing any favours to the axle / diff centre!
