Man have I had some bad luck the past week. First I run up a mates a*** (only a VT ;) ) Then my gear box started to over heat. Now my diff is faaarked.

My 'econ' light keeps flashing indicating that my trans is over heating so it goes into safe mode and slips and takes off in third gear. It only started happaning last night after I drove my car 25km to the beach. When I got back in the car the 'econ' light kept flashing. THEN! My diff started to wine really loudly. Now when I take off first gear wines bad as, second gear is quiet (but not right) third is the same but Drive is laud as to.

Anyone got any idea's of as to what my problem could be. I'm already up for 6k damage to my mates car and at least 3k for mine...oh i'm a stupid tool for spending my insurance money on my car!!!!

cheers, Nathan

Yikes! Sounds very steep. I think my oil level could be down (or burnt like you said) but it doesn't explain why it come on like a switch...or does the oil burn when your trans over heats?

thats about the stupidest thing anyone could do, just be glad it wasnt a 120grand merc or something. i cant be too harsh though, my parents have only just decided they needed insurance on their cars :)

i dont think the problem is your diff, a diff whine will usually just get louder with speed, it sounds like your gearbox is really really rooted

Your car wouldnt happen to be a white EL with 20's would it?

Hi Jose. I know how stupid it was. Funny though..My mate didnt have insurance on his VT which really f**k us both up. Two very silly people without insurance running into each other. Perfect!

I know the car your talking about but its not mine. I drive a arctic blue EF Monty. Just lowered stock rims and cat back. Keep an eye out for it. Just look for the f**k front end :p

Still havnt seen you around yet. What suburb are you from?

cheers, Nathan

newtown, although im in lara and st albans park a fair bit.

its a bit gamble not having insurance, my parents have done it for about 15 years, never had an accident and probably saved 10-15k on insurance - other people let it lapse for a week and hit a new merc/beamer!

If the damage to your car is a bit more that superficial ($3k suggests it is) then assuming you have not lost fluid from the tranny then you most likely have kinked the tranny cooler pipes. When this happen the pump has to work overtime to circulate the fliud and it becomes noisy in first. With lack of line pressure then the clutch packs are not going to be gripping very well and will be overheating.

once the gearbox starts making the DEATH RATTLES (not whining anymore im talking MAJOR RATTLES), dont drive it.

for me i overheated my gearbox, started making noise, whining through gears, and at idle, drove it 5km the next day, and all of a sudden no gears, none, as in rolling backwards down a hill in "D".

chack the oil and PRAY that a change in oil will fix it.

check your trans cooler lines to the radiator (common spot is the lower passenger side bend behind the radiator.

good luck.

Thanks for your help guys!!!

After the accident I must have bent an oil line and I now have a leak which is clearly evident once you get under the car.

Im putting the car on the hoist tonight so I can top the fluid up for the moment and once the cars been repaired ill replace what ever needs fixing.

thanks again everyone.

cheers, Nathan

I wouldn't think the BTR 4 speed for the EB is too exy second hand now. A mate of mine just bought a 24,000k old BA 4 speed for $1100 from a wrecker for his XR6T, as his was forked. Apparently they don't handle 395kw too well...........

Anyway, moral of the story, if yours is truly rooted, get yourself a second hand one. Or buy a rolling wreck and fix all the stuffed bits on your car a the same time.........
