I was actually going to write 'new second hand' and I thought to myself 'Nah, no one would pick up on it' but no, someone had to lol. I went down today to get a second hand part  and now it's all back on and even quieter than before, that old fan must have been on it's way out for a long time.

if you've got the thermo fans from the EF, they will NOT FIT in the EB-ED cars...you NEED the EL ones. some people will tell you they're the same but they're NOT. so my first piece of advice would be to make sure you get EL ones.

anyway, the wiring is very easy, just go down to autobahn or supercheap, some place like that, and pick up a davies craig thermatic switch. approx, $70.

s**t....I have EF ones in my car and they fitted in perfectly, the thermo's are the same shape and size, the only difference that I know of between the EF and EL thermos is the wiring loom

Have you tried the backspin test on this one yet? Let the car idle then try and stop the fan from spinning (no it won't chop your fingers off). On my brothers VL his car was overheating and we did the backspin test. Could spin it backwards at over 3000rpm engine speed. Fitted a new clutch and good as gold.
