it not really so important to get the head shaved unless theres evidence of warping,,when i did the hg on my 3.9 i never got it shaved and never had a problem,,but its up to you,,it took me two days to do mine as three of the head bolts were seized.
its more fiddly than hard,,especially the intake manifold bolts. and i am going to do the hg on 4litre soon as the seal between the hg and tc is stuffed..

Can anyone recomend a good machinic to do this job. Maybe a nice ford mod member would fix it for a little cash or cans? Thry can choose This is the second one in 9 months due to my cooling system which just got replaced last week and I thought the problem was all fixed. my cooling system is so f**k that i leak a full to the brims worth of coolant in about an hour and a half! i am about to replace my whole cooling system!

Clog the radiator, and I wouldn't want that s**t through my cooling galleries. So yeah, I wouldn't use it on an engine I planned on keeping. Plus, no guarantees it'll even work at all. If the leak is as bad as you say, I'd put money that it wouldn't.

I went to natrad, replaced all my hoses, new clips thermo and a new 3 core radiator.
It cost $700ish with labour included all up, plus new fluids and stuff.

I use silicone instead of gaskets (high temp copper silicone for exhaust).
Genuine ford head bolts are $60, aftermarket are $30. My local ford sell both these days.

Depends, lots of people think that way though. Personally I think it comes down to the way you use it. Pick the right type of silicone for the job, use a thin even bead on clean straight surfaces and the end result will be more reliable than a gasket.
