OK then is the GT Boss 290 unique in any way compared to other 290's?

Nope.
The XR8's had the 260. The GT, GT-P, Pursuit and Super Pursuit all got the Boss 290 motors, which are all the same. |

BOSS290 is 11.5:1 compression, bigger cams (and they're hollow), some other changes (floating gudgeon pins).
BOSS260 is 10.5:1 compression, regular cams, regular pistons. The FPV site tells what's different. http://www.fpv.com.au/cars/gt/enginetra ... block.aspx http://www.fpv.com.au/cars/gt/enginetra ... heads.aspx

Cheers, Pete. |

Ahhh, yup.
I guess most of the performance gained is from the cam grind and compression rise. The other things are done for reliability.

The other things are done for reliability. not to mention keeping the driveability and fuel consumption to an acceptable level. people these days want a car that will put around on the smell of an oily rag, and still have a firebreathing monster under the right foot, should they so decide, its a tough balancing act for a car company to produce. |
