Of course you realise you only need the 351 crank. There are many pistons available that allow the use of the 302 rods on 351 crank. I would recommend the Hypatec brand Forged version. This results in a better rod angle than a 351 rodded engine has. It also means longer piston dwell at TDC which is believed to provide benefits in torque production.

i have heard the 351C used in the XE falcons have 4 bolt mains as standard, maybe this would be worth looking into abit more if u are serious about a strong bottom end

Nope not true. It is true that some 4 bolt nascar blocks went out in some XE's and some of the last bronco's. It is rare and generally these failed inspection for racing use so were shoved off into lowly production cars. Cheza, it doesn't have to be a 4MA crank to convert to 351. 4MA or 4MA-B are just the engineering numbers for the U.S. produced 351 cranks. In fact the ARD 351 casting cranks are the aussie made cranks which I'd rather have. Pete. |

4ma is std old crank, 4mab was factory nitrided, 351 is later model crank, some say the 4ma/b is stronger.
If you ever plan to race it don't waste money on old iron heads unless they already have good parts on them, its just not worth the money. First thing to get would be a nice new set of alloys and matching manifold. If you really want to get 11's and then go faster with a blower, if its in a heavy car, you would be better off stroking the motor to a 393, you'll get the results you are after much easier. |
