ok ...against my better judgement i got a dyno power run today cos it was suggested to me by the place thats gonna build my high stall..
looking at so many other dyno runs on forums mainly here ive seen that othe cars with simuliar mods to mine have been in the 130-140ish kilowatts range.. look at mine and tell me whats goin on.. im running wheelspinning 15.2 at the plex. im getting hi stall and sticky tyres to fix up the 60 ft time and improve in general.. terminal speeds in the 90-91 mph range and 660 fts of 10.018. with 660 speeds of 118kph.. ef ghia series 2 TICKFORD I6 3.45 LSD. ADJUSTABLE SHIFT MOD AUTO.. MODS WADE 1636 CAM POD IN AIRBOX (SEALED ) SECONDARY CAI FROM UNDER THE FRONT BUMPER TO BOTTOM OF AIRBOX TICKFORD SNORKEL EXTRACTORS 2 1/2 SYSTEM the guy put the auto gearshift into 2nd gear and slowly revved it up to 5800rpm.. the dyno sheet is there for you to see.. how is it im way down on power compared to others with the times im running?? my mechanic reckons his dyno is dodgey or he didnt know what his doing.. i saw on here last week someone who got 122 from a standard el falcon.. is my ticky producing nothing?? my mileage is 168,000kms.. compression spot on and head gasket done 12 months ago . no mechanical problems that my mechanic has found.. any suggestions from those who know bout dyno runs or have had them??

Id say you were 5 or 6kw down in what it should probably show.
The only difference is that the dyno you just ran it on is using the standard Dyno Dynamics software. Whereas those that are getting the 130-140rwkw range I would be 99.5% sure they are using dynos running the Shootout Mode Dyno Dynamics software, which will always show a higher reading than the standard software. My previous car (EL Ghia) with exact same mods as you never saw more than 123rwkw on a dyno with standard software. It did see a 141rwkw without the 1636 on a Shootout Mode dyno though. I wouldn't be worried. Although it looks as though the cam could use a couple of degree's retarding. Max power is coming on way before the 2-3 shift - probably around the 4500rpm mark. Awaits all the "dynos are only tuning instruments and shouldn't be used to compare power figures" posts. |

I'd have to agree with Arm, its probably a little lower than what it should be, but that far down on power.
In shootout mode i would've thought you would've pulled around the 130-140rwkw mark. If you're running decent times down the strip, then the dyno chart doesn't really matter. It's alwasy basically been a wank factor thing for most people. |

Does the graph have the table at the bottom showing the settings?

thanx guys..
yeah im not concerned bout the power figure at all i just thought i was ripped off or something.. no matter what the power output on a bit of paper is it dosent change the fact as to how the car performs on the street or strip.. now for the stallie and the sticky tyres and 14s, here i come.. so all these power outputs from the shootout mode thingys are crap then.. why say 130 -140 kw if it aint... talk about wank factor then.. now i know why i never wantd a dyno run done anyway... and that is the whole graph.... no more to show..

Lookin at that dyno sheet, the cam timing may need to be advanced, its takin a long time to develop the power. How big is this cam anyway?

How big is this cam anyway? --------------------------------------------- Cam lift - Intake 0.248". Exhaust 0.242". Advertised duration - Intake 264 degrees. Exhaust 258 degrees. Duration @ 0.050" - Intake 206 degrees. Exhaust 198 degrees. Advertised timing - In. opens 22 closes 62. Ex. opens 60 closes 18. Phase angle - 113 degrees. I say retard, as retarding will push the power peak higher in the rev range. May also account for why:
a) You're down a few kw from the 'norm', as the power is peaking earlier in the rev range b) Might take away some of your wheelspin off the line. If the power is coming on too strong on take off. Might get you a nice 60', but may cost you at the end of the line. On the otherhand for an auto on the street, it would probably be ideal. |

The runs on 4spd auto Falcons are normally done in 3rd gear - that's the 1:1 ratio.
And yes running in 2nd will cause a lower result than a run in 3rd. Not as much as it appears you're 'missing', but would bring it into line with the 5-6KW down Arm mentioned.

I think its been proven otherwise in the past the gear doesnt matter. All it does it shift the km/h range, if the scale is in km/h. |

I've done it myself (when I still had my EL) 3rd gave the highest reading by a handful of KW.
Yeah, not much, but if you're after a good looking dyno sheet, it matters.
