I haven't done an EF EL unit but I have one here that’s pulled apart. If you want to change the filter you need to unsolder one side of the LCD Display.

Alternatively, you can put in a red coloured globe and make you LCD display red like mine.

Thanks for that but the rest of the dash is already blue with red instrument faces, so if things work out at night should change to purple. I gues I will have to pull it apart tonight and change the filter.

Some drunk prised the display to much while tring to de-solder. You need apply even pressure to the display housing while heating each pin in turn very slow process, I had one side almost clear when the screwdriver i was using to prise the display housing slipped and hit the back of the display makinging it bleed. I have a spare but te mod will have to wait as doing full change of wiring harness from fairmont for also fitting elec windows Climate control ABS & cruise, big weekend.

Thats why you need the proper tools to do it....you need a solder sucker....trying to go round them all slowly prising it up is VERY dodgy! At the very least, solder wick should be used...
