Hey all,
sorry to be a pain in the a***, i know theres a thread floating around about how to convert your EF from auto to manual, but i don't want to do it myself. I was just wondering if anybody in perth has got it done by professionals, and also how much am i lookin at paying? hate having an auto and not being able to shift gears.. (boring) thanks

I'm sure there are some WA members here that may give you a hand if you ask nicely...though some favours may be required.
You could give it a shot, but if you are hopeless with tools then I suggest not too. good luck phong =P~

kmart tyre n auto wanted to charge me $150 each way (in and out) to just swap over an auto box.
so i did it myself in my driveway. took me a while by myself. as i ran into loads of problems due to zorst been in the way. so i had to take extractors off. and getting a heavy clunker gearbox back in the car when it was just sitting on jackstands @ the front.. after that ordeal.. my next step was manual conversion. and that was 200% easier.. i had that manual box in and out in about 5 minutes. (had to get it all lined up correctly) with manual.. setup the clutch... bolt it onto the flywheel tight... put the bellhousing on next and tighten that up.. and then slip the T5 in the back. very light and very easy way to do it compared with trying to benchpress a complete Auto gearbox. i say do it @ home.. if u got car-ramps even easier than jacking up and putting on stands.

I am also in the same boat as the OP.
I would really like to change my EF XR8 over from AUTO to MANUAL but I'm a little confused as to where to start. I'd really like to know how much it would cost so I have a goal to save towards. Do I have to actually source out a manual gearbox myself or is there a place which I can buy one and get it installed at? I am also in Perth. ps - I don't think I would be able to do it myself....as I don't know an awful lot about transmissions/engines..... I'd love to learn though

i suggest ringing a specialist gearbox mob and getting a quote from them to do it.
If you have to ask how much and whats involved then you most probably wont be able to do it anyway....... |
