Hey,

My drive belt keeps pop'ing off..... i think its cause the big pulley on the crankshaft doesnt line up with the tensioner.... but not sure... i have a picture here:
http://www.liquid-pixel.org/Images/DSCN0117%5B1%5D.jpg

if you could have a look and tell me what you think is wrong... and post up a pic of yours so i can see if mine is alright....

i have an EF2 Fairmont if that helps (1996)

Thanks in advance

Either the out ring of the balancer is slipping off (likely) or the balancer itself is coming loose (unlikely).

Just from the pic: Is the idler bracket tight on the timing cover? Also what are the bearings like on the idler?

That was gunna be my next question  If the outer ring has slipped on the balancer its rooted. Time to whip it off and get a new one.

Yep, the outer ring slipping is pretty common as they get old. Nothing you can do but head down to your local auto store and swap it for a new one.

edit - you can usually see it. Leave the belt off, start it up and have a quick look (dont run the engine for long though). It will probably wobble all over the place.

The balancers shat themselves because the oil would seep up the crank woodraft key slot and sweat out to bugger up the rubber and then the outer ring lets go. So make sure you apply sealant to the key slot on the new balancer.
