half way through removing my worn steering wheel to put a new one on.. the blot that goes through the centre hole.. with a star shaped head on it how do you take that off.. ??.. thanks

you will need a torx bit, or a big allen key that will fit unscrew it then you will have to pull it very very hard, but look out when it does fly off so you dont smack yourself in the face.

you need a T50 torx bit, s**t auto should sell you a set of these bits for about $20.
Undo the bolt, then do it back up by a couple of turns and just wiggle the steering wheel pulling as hard as you can. Eventually it'll just fly off, which is why you leave the bolt in by a few turns. If you don't you won't be the first person to break their nose changing a steering wheel... |

went to super cheap.. the guy was a tosser... they did not have a bit big enough... so i'm using a hex key... i cant get the thing to budge what way is undo.. ?? thanks

I use an Allen key to get mine off...just sit it in there, get a hammer and start tapping...or make it longer using a spanner or socket extension or something like that...cant remember off hand if it is reverse thread or not....dont think it is...

its not a reverse thread and you can get the proper torx bit from any good tool shop. I got one to go onto a 1/2" socket.We abused that soo much at the wreckers that it was useless so we cut 6mmoff the end and its working good again.

from my experience you need to make a puller, i nearly pulled the whole steering colum out not to mention my arms out off their sockets. when changing my wheel on the fairmont

yeah i needed a bearing puller to do mine too. we bought one a few years ago for karting, i think $30 from supercheap. Or a specific steering wheel puller will work too.
and yeah, go to repco, they'll have the right torx bits to get the bolt out |

As mentioned just loosen the bolt. the wiggle the steering wheel side to side, it'll come loose, and undo the bolt and remove. It really is easy. Other than the T50 bit (I found a T45 will do the job as well) no special tools required.
